It was designed by Harry D. Payne. Its last recorded capacity was 32,000. Tenants included Houston Cougars (College Football, 1946–1950, 1994–2012), Houston Oilers (NFL, 1960–1964) and Texas Southern Tigers (College Football, 1977–1992, 2001).
